Who writes it

Tabline Notes editorial team. A small team that writes independent download guides for open-source Windows software. Facts come from the Notepad++ release notes, the official user manual, the GitHub release files and the winget manifest, and are re-checked when a new version ships. Every page names the date it was last verified and the release it was verified against, and the verification policy describes exactly what "verified" means. The contact page lists any available corrections channel.

Why this site exists

Searching for a Notepad++ download returns download portals and search ads next to the official site, and the official download page itself asks readers to report malicious ads. This site gives the one command that installs the genuine build, the exact file name on the current release, and the checks that prove a file is real. It hosts no software; every download link points at github.com/notepad-plus-plus/notepad-plus-plus or the winget package.

How the guides are checked

Facts come from primary sources only: the Notepad++ release notes, the official user manual, the files and SHA-256 digests on the GitHub release, and the winget manifest in Microsoft's repository. Version numbers, file names, sizes and hashes are read from GitHub by a script each time the site is built, so the page you are reading matches release 8.9.8.1 (September 24, 2026). Install behaviour is described from the manifest and the user manual, and each guide shows the date its facts were last checked. The full method is on theeditorial policy page.

Independence and money

  • No affiliation with Don Ho and the Notepad++ team. Notepad++ is published by its developers under the GPL; images on this site are screenshots of the project's own public pages, used to describe it.
  • No affiliate links and no sponsored articles.
  • No hosted binaries. Every download link points at the official GitHub release.
  • See the advertising disclosure for how the site is funded.

What is on the site

4 guides cover installing Notepad++ every way the project supports, adding plugins, comparing it with VS Code and choosing a free text editor for Windows. Two reference pages list the release files and explain how to spot a fake download.

Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, the contact page lists any available way to report it. Confirmed factual corrections are made when reviewed, and the page's verified date is updated. The comparison pages try to say plainly when a competitor is the better choice.
